Busy weekend

It's wish me breakaleg time. We are on tomorrow with The Maids, finally.

The photo is one of fabulous hannamime's, showing the stage set for us. Picture me kneeling upstage, pawing through Madame's wardrobe (=pile of clothes on the floor) with love and hate and envy and lust and passion. Even trying on The Red Velvet Dress. That's how we open.

Luckily we are opening on a matinee, because in the evening, it's time for the Eurovision song contest, brought to the kitsch-loving public of the world (well, Europe) from my very own Helsinki. I hope we get a table in the pub after the show - not for the drinking, but for the rowdy dorkiness of it all. For those of you who care about such things, my friend Arabella is working behind the scenes of the kitsch-fest, and has some really rather juicy photos you won't see anywhere else but on her Flickr site...

(I know, I know, this post is pure trousers. But what can I do. I need to rest the brain for tomorrow.)

Tomorrow (today, really) is Finland Day for me. The early part of the day will be spent feverishly sending you bountiful breakaleg sentiments telepathically - all of my supernatural powers will therefore be directed towards Helsinki.

And then, in the evening - Eurovision. Campfest campetition of tuneless degeneracy and sparklevision campness - all the way from The Frozen North.

I am rushing to see Arabella's photos to get me in the mood. Not that I need any encouragement, right enough.

Thinking of you through all of it, Anna MR.

Just checking in, mad Solange, to see how things went today. Feel the good will, magical Finn, and I'll hopefully catch you later. In a terrible rush now, though.

NMJ - Solange is actually very scary (the director worries about asking her to go onstage when it's time) so maybe you don't actually want a front row seat. But thank you for the well-wishing - I am here now and it went well, been there done that. Going again tomorrow night, so keep up the legbreak-wishing for me, won't you. x

Into the home straight now, Anna Mr. Tomorrow (Saturday) will be the last performance.

The good will is being kept up most feverishly, don't worry, and shall be kept up until you are all done.

Overwhelmingly good wishes in your direction, Finlander - especially at performance times.

Thinking about you tonight.

Wonderful Wonderponi - kiitos is just not a big enough word in response to your good will well-wishing. Just know that you and the will is being fervently appreciated, ok?

Very fervently appreciated.

Oho - you're back. I see from elsewhere that you had to turn people away tonight, Anna MR. A sensation. Brilliant news, I feel, although I can see what you mean about the frustrations of having to tell people they can't come and watch.

Did they seem to enjoy it? (if enjoy is the right word when dealing with such starkly unpleasant and unsettling subjects)

Keeping up the good will is easy Anna MR, you inspire such feelings.

Are you still up?

Hello there wonderful Wonderponi, it is v.frustrating to turn people away particularly when previous shows have been poorly attended, and the only remaining show is sold out too, so all you can tell the people turned away is "you should've seen us last weekend, rather than watched Eurovision and/or ice hockey (get your priorities right)".

Having said that, they were a bit of an uphill struggle audience. They rooted very much for Claire and hated poor maddy Solange, I think. Which is not inconceivable, all things considered, but they were very hard work for the comedy act that follow us, too. But - I suppose they had a good night out, and my mum said she was impressed (and she doesn't mince her words, if she thinks something sucked she will just come out and say so).

Incidentally, kiitos for the compliment as well (regarding inspiring good will) - you are such a smooth talker, I am swooning here.

Can I wish you retrospective broken legs? I come from a long line of theatre people and know how much of one's essence and substance goes into these things. Wishing I was in the front row with nmj.

Ice Maiden, hei. You have probably just recently finished your final (matinee) performance - well done. Make sure to fully enjoy any bedlam and letting down of hair that ensues afterwards. That would be my sincere advice, anyway.

You've done brilliantly well, even your mum says so. And that bunch - mums - are a notoriously hard crowd to please. Feel the praise......

Ms Signs - yes you can. Retrospective broken-legs wishes (especially when from theatrical lineage) enter a certain loop in time saved especially for theatre folk, and thus they are nicely waiting for one at the theatre as one enters. It's amazing how these things are arranged, really. (Yes, you're right, a stupid amount of one's essence and substance goes into these things. Am expecting quite a hard come-down this time, the role was heavy.)

As I said to NMJ, Solange was very scary. Am not sure you would've wanted front row seats - the theatre was very small, very small indeed. She was difficult to get away from for the front liners.

Wonderponi - it has been simply wonderful to be receiving your good wishes like this, before every show. I don't only feel the praise (thank you kindly) but I feel looked after, if not pampered. For which I thank you most sincerely, dearest ystävä rakkaani.

(As for the letting-down of hair - a little seems to go a long way these days. It is fun but a small quantity only is needed.)

You're very welcome, Anna.

Incidentally, the picture of sparkling water in your latest post is glorious. The light is really dancing, isn't it? Love it. The Gulf of Finland/Baltic Sea totally rules. And glitteringness is a fine word.

The water is saying look at me, dance with me, look at me, love me - since you asked.

Ah, wonderful Wonderponi, your understanding of things Finnish runs so deep it astounds me and moves me. Thank you for the translation of my sea's words. I shall treasure them always.
