Because Ruth asked, and because she's nice*

The name of this blog comes from a poem. It goes something like this:

in the future of my past
my children stand waiting for me
I choose it again, and again, and again

I thought the poem was rubbish and didn't capture what the writer meant at all, but it gave good blog name.

*She lives here.

Sweet Little Anna! You are a darling girl, and I think you would agree.

Thank you.

What else can I ask ? . . . .hmm, let me think . . .

Well I've certainly learned something new today. Though I'm inclined to agree about the meaning of the poem..

Wonderful and simple explanation, but I agree, your blogname is really nice! :-)

Your blog name is captivating, so is the poem. Thank you for sharing these ideas.

What poem is this, and who wrote it? I have my suspicions, Sees, I do. Har!

Ruth my dear, be careful what you ask for, in these parts. It may be granted you, and it may be more than you'd actually like to know (trying to cultivate a blog noir sort of atmosphere here, just for the hell of it).

Much as I hate to get all argumentative with you, who are clearly such a lovely person, I don't rightly know whether I'd agree with you about my being a darling girl. It still makes me feel nice that you should say so, however, so perhaps that compensates for my disagreeing somewhat.

In other words, you're more than welcome, Ruth, and what a lovely thing that you should come up with such a question for the blogging community as a whole. Did you get many participants? I am slightly behind with my blogging (and just about everything else, too, to be perfectly honest with you), but will catch up when the time comes. The right time, that is.

Hugs in the meantime, dear heart. Hoping your weekend is wonder-filled.

Young housut, hello and hei and how are you? Always happy to be able to provide something newly-learnable (this doesn't happen to me very often, you know). The meaning of the poem is hidden deep deep down in bad poetry, but I picked the four best words for the most suitable use. For a while, actually, the first six months or so, this blog was titled (imaginatively, no?) "My Hawai'ian Diary", for I lived in Hawai'i when I started it and it was my diary. But the url was always the same, and I must say the name change was a significant improvement to the blog.

Here's hoping not only that you agree, but that you're having a rooting-tooting weekend, you young party animal, and that you break numerous legs with regard to any and all gigs you may be playing (possibly even as we speak now?), and that Berlin dawns on you bright and beautiful and all Central European (you are going there soon, aren't you?), and that you enjoy it and life in general to the fullest immense degree.

Hej, Peter, vad skönt at träffa dej. Välkommen till min blog, min Nordisk granne. Ursäkta mej, however, var så vänlig, att min svenska är lite rusty - my latent listening (and reading) comprehension is pretty good, but when it comes to producing the lingo myself, it becomes less fluent.

Highly happy that you care for the name of my bloggy. That is a lovely thing, Peter, for I think it's rather a nice name, too, and I would hate it if it was just my self-delusional thought. (I am hotly hopeful that a) you aren't just saying so to be nice and b) you don't think I'm blowing my own trumpet, incidentally.) I understand that you are, in fact, the Swede who owns Paris. Be warned, I shall come and have a look around your domain (blog, that is - no immediate plans to invade Paris, as yet, although it would be nice. I've never been. Could I cope with just English and Swedish, and the odd word of Finnish, do you think, Peter? For one of my worries about visiting Paris has always been the sorry lack of any French abilities I suffer from - but if, as I now understand, Paris belongs to a Swede, I should be able to get on with my muminsvenska.

Härligt att träffa dej, dear heart. Ha det så bra, och hoppas att din veckoslut är ... relaxing. Damn, I really thought that was a word I had within my active vocabulary, but it seems not to be the case.

Limpingly-Nordic handshakes to you, Peter. Very nice to meet you.

Linda, hello and welcome and thank you for your kind words and thoughts. "Captivating" is quite a compliment, and I don't rightly know how to hold myself so as not to reveal that I'm super pleased and delighted, and manage to appear all calm and cool and casual and collected and in control instead.

So yes, you are more than welcome to these ideas, Linda, and any and all on these pages which might attract your interest. It is always an honour and a pleasure to have someone new visit, speak, and enjoy. So thank you kindly, and hope you're having a lovely time in Toronto. I've known a couple of people from there, in fact - one whom I still do. She's called Johanna. The other one was a Melissa. Might you know them? A long stretch, yes, but weirder things have happened under the sun, and within Blogoslavia...

My suspicious sees Signs, hei (and Har, I suppose). Well, it is a poem called "future of my past", and the poet, as explained in the tag, is a certain Anonymous, to whom many, many other poetic crimes are attributed.

Hoping this satisfies your thirst for knowledge, my dear. Also hoping the weekend is one of happy relaxation interspersed with productive bursts of creative outpouring, dearest you of clever writings.

Mwahs, as always

Hello Montag, and hei. Sorry about the deletion above this comment here, but I wasn't comfortable with my full name being used here, preferring, as I do, to go about in hoods and capes and cloaks and Scarlet Pimpernel hats. Sorry about that. Anyway, I'm sure mutual comment deletions are the new black, and that must make you and I the hippest bloggers on the block.

And you're right, of course - I am here, although I'm not speaking, I haven't changed planet or anything of the sort. Hope all is well over your way, Montag, and if I don't get a chance to say so before the event, I hope you have a totally lovely Christmas and bright and sparkly 2010.

Same to you...I mean same to you, wellness and merriness and christmasness.

I didn't delete...I hid them in a place close to my heart where neither rust corrupt, etc., etc., and so forth.

Yikes.
That sounds creepy. Sorry.
Cross it out.

Hang on Sees, I heard that. And there I was thinking myself to be the hippest blogger on the block (picture Gary Glitter in the good old days singing "d'ya wanna be in my gang, my gang, my gang" etc). But anyway, it seems that you and Montag are it now. Hmph. Well merry Christmas anyway, Boffie, I hope you see plenty of pink elephants this season. And a few penguins.

Sweetest Signs Sees, penguin-shaped mwahs and hope you and yours have had a lovely yuletide. Sparkling things of wonder to your 2010. My speaking (be it in tongues or with keyboards) abilities are currently seriously curtailed by Life As We Know It, but please never doubt the kinship which streams from here to there.

Love to you - and those beaky mwahs.

Aloha! No, that came out wrong, for I am not in Hawaii. Haloa! That's better. How is Life As We Know It in your neck of the woods then? It's been jolly fine here, have not been on the Edge, though, but in Brighton. The light, the light, Sees! And the oysters - you wouldn't like them (would you?), but just take it from me - Neptune's finest. The Brighton council polees are threatening to throw me and Mr. S into a snake-infested dungeon for council tax crimes we haven't even committed. But I don't care about them - pah! A free spirit, me. Well at any rate a disorganised one.

Bit late in wishing you a hippy new year. Peace 'n love - and Mwah!

They said "mensa" to me, for a brief moment after I arrived, until they realised it was me and they weren't meant to say anything at all to me here in my own house (I've been away so long they've forgotten who owns the place).

But aloha haloa loaha ahalo (all sounds very Hawai'ian, take it from me). Brighton? Right-on B? Well that's very lovely, I have totally fond memories of the place (as it was some, God help us all, twenty odd years ago), and I am fond of the light by the sea, yes. Oysters, that food of lurve, I've never had. I probably would, mind - nothing that flies or runs being the rule, right - although I remember from my youth in waitressing feeling quite bad for them when the chef woman pinched each one to see if it twitched before they were taken in to be served. But there you have it and I'm sure they're lovely and I'd certainly sit down for a plateful with you, that's for sure.

Council polees in Brighton, though. Now you have a habit of getting in trouble with the polees, young Signs, my criminal schwestah, haven't you? You do you do you do you do you do, so don't try to deny it. What I'm now a mite concerned about is are you perhaps going to leave The Edge for ever or something, for I happen to have this feeling - call it a hunch, you know me - that another council official is either looking for you on Monday or has already been doing so on Saturday. My hunches are rarely wrong, Signs of Seafood, so I'd be betting they aren't, now.

Anyway anyway anyway, it's very late and I'm writing this letter when Life As We Know It is looking - briefly - the other way. How lovely it is to see you, Signs my dear. Truly. Neptune's, Brighton's, The Edge's and February's finest to you, as always (and March's too, as we get there).

Mwahs aplenty, sees x

how you do this starry night background? Not intending to "copy" you, but would like to do something that allows for dark on the outside and light within so it's not too hard on the peeps' eyes. Something outside the regular template. Probably really complicated, isn't it?

Anna MR said...

Listen, dearest Schwestah - it's only for you that I can be dragged to speak here (and I mean it, you know, this is currently an issue). The design - and a very beautiful design it is, too - of my bloggy has come about through the brainy-boffiny and supremely artistic effort of a Divine Entity, who made it for me as a present. I wouldn't know how to do it. The only thing I do know, however, is that the starry sky is not, in fact, a starry sky (while it certainly looks that way, right) - it depicts falling snow against a night-black sky, and I took the picture myself. From my balcony. But. I think we can discuss this matter and you can maybe even pray to the Divine Entity yourself, you know what I'm saying, sees.

In the meantime, I remain yours faithfully and am running off before somebody - anybody, I suppose - catches me talking in my house. Mwahs aplenty and see you soon.
