RIP Ingmar Bergman...

Ingmar Bergman has died today. I really love The Seventh Seal and Fanny & Alexander...wish I could watch one of them tonight, in memory of a great artist.

It was on the news here tonight.

I liked his films, Wild Strawberries most of all.

I've followed film, far far less than music, painting etc (my loss I know), so I confess to not having seen any of his work - something to be remedied having read about him and his legacy.

All the same, a very familiar name, one of those which seems to have always been there in the background.

I didn't know this. I too loved Fanny & Alexander.

RH - never tell anyone, but that's one I haven't seen. Shhh....

housut - you are very brave to admit to this sort of grave gap in your general knowledge (don't see the above comment, please). Do go ahead and get acquainted with his work, though. I don't think you'll regret it. He has also written a number of autobiographical works, of which I have read "Laterna Magica" - very good. How to make a formidable career in art via one's parents' crappy marriage (he had a few of his own, too). I wish I could utilise mine to a fraction of the effect, in any field of self-expression...

Signs - I am not surprised you would like F&A, too, of course you would, my twinster Princeter. Sad, isn't it. But he was 89, a pretty good innings, all told - and working right till the end.

loved the seventh seal, watched it on video in san francisco in early nineties with a boy who used to kiss his mother on the lips. his brothers did too. maybe i am odd to find this odd. didn't like fanny & alexander half as much.

Hei NMJ honey - how odd that you didn't like Fanny & Alexander, of the two I think I like it even better than The Seventh Seal...I saw F & A as the tv version, however, which is in two parts because it is considerably longer than the cinema release cut (this is how I've understood it anyway). Maybe they left some essential things out of the cinema cut? Anyway, isn't the young Max von Sydow quite the Scandinavian Viking?

(One of my lads will still very occasionally give me a proper pusu, i.e. a little family-or-friends kiss on the lips. The other one has to be blackmailed even to hugging me for goodnight. I won't tell you which one's which, though, so as not to embarrass them publicly (not that they ever read me, mind). )

hey hon

young max von sydow, probably the only man hotter than pony poika . . .

i am up so late, after midnight i fear turning into a pumpkin.

the kissing on lips, i think that whole family was pretty dysfunctional, so i am probably more perturbed about the kissing thing than i have a right to be. but this boy (and his brothers) were clearly all in love with the mother, and she with them.

but he was a lovely guy, though he kept me awake with loud guitar playing -he was my flatmate for a while. his mother too.

the father was a bastard, of course. he was involved in comedia dell'arte on the east coast, that sticks in my mind.

Mm, yes, well, when linked with other things I'm sure the kissing gave an odd vibe (I am furiously hoping I don't come across as a weirdo with my own boys - mine are so utterly un-in-love with me that it sometimes makes me sad to think of the days ten years ago when they'd run to the door to greet me, and I would be so tired from work I wouldn't really want to have anything to do with them). His mother was your flatmate too? I think this all sounds like quite a story, with the commedia dell'arte thrown in too for good measure...

I shouldn't be up so late either, I need to try and get back into a work-day routine. One more day left of holidays, oh woe is me. You can turn into a pumpkin, I'll turn into a mouse. Together we'll make a fine horse-and-carriage-that-was...but where, and more importantly, who is Cinders?

Don't know if you realise but there's no way of commenting on your "when panic hits" post.

Hope you're ok. I always advise people - especially me - to drink water. Not to flood yourself out with it, but try a glass or two and see if it makes any difference. May sound stupid but I find it really does help. As do hugs x

oh honey, are you okay? i really hope you are feeling less anxious, yes, the comments have disappeared on that post, you may need to tweak it, happens to me all the time. or maybe you don't want comments?

i was more their flatmate, i guess, the mother & son, since they lived there first. only for six months. but you know how some people stay in your head. they were nice people.

today, i had such anxiety - & was awake with knots most of the night - i kept kicking things, was all i could do to stop myself from screaming like a banshee at the top of my lungs.

word ver: jimaeizn

sounds like a benzodiazepine.

i send you come virtually.

many years ago my GP gave me diazepam (valium) - my M.E headaches were so huge, this was the only thing that helped take the edge off. it was lovely. i still felt ill but i didn't care.

sending hugs

Hei dear housut trousers, honey NMJ - thank you. Yes, the comments are off on purpose, but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate your notes of support over here. I do. Very much. Thank you. x
